as many of you know the girls love insects!
so last fall we caught, housed and fed many caterpillars. several died, but two survived, made cocoons and lived in a salad container in our kitchen window all winter long.
here are the results:
in this picture you
can barely see the
white tuft, but
that's one of our
moths.
here you can see
the one completely
out and the other
still working on it.
still working
here's what
it looks like out
of the cocoon.
they were red, furry caterpillars. the cocoon (see above) is made from that fur.
the girls are thrilled! wish you were here, camera man!

I wonder if Caslon (the cat) came from a red caterpiller.
I love the bugs... wish we could be there to take pictures. :)
they are really amazing--will you let it go now? The picture is pretty good considering you are taking it through plastic!!
the one is still working it's way out (i hope.) i'm taking them into school today and eventually we'll release them. most moths are nocturnal, so we'll at least wait til later
that's one big red caterpillar!
Wow! That is awesome!
so, when do we get to see pictures of the recent "project"?
soon
btw I hear you are all still alive--how is "red" doing??
it's coming. thanks for making sure i survived.
