founding fathers

"Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible."
- George Washington

"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ! For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom ofworship here."
- Patrick Henry

"Providence has given our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as privilege and interest, of a Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers."
- John Jay,
first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, one of threemen most responsible for our Constitution

scary thing is that our nation has elected people who want to rewrite history.

"Believing that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their Legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church and State.

Thomas Jefferson
(Letter to the Danbury Baptists, 1802)

The quote that legislature should not make any law establishing religion was in response to the fact that governments have always had government subsidized and established churches and rel;igions. Examples are the Anglican church of Britain, the Greek Orthodox church, and the Roman church in Italy. Many thought it to be preposterous that a government could be established without giving preference and financial support to one particular religion. It was unheard of in Jefferson's day not to have a preferential religion. Each religious group was to be treated equally without government support. Each denomination, cleric or amish assembly would have to be treated equally and sink or swim without subsidy. The second part of that quote probiting the free exercise generally has not been in dispute unless it resulted in great detriment to society such as human sacrifice etc,.The interpretation of making a wall between church and state is a rewriting of history foisted upon us in the last 40 years. It is possibly the greatest rewriting of American Hisory in our lifetime and is already resulting in a misinterpretation of what Jefferson really meant in not giving any church support and preference.

thanks trader mom for clarifing the jefferson quote caslon left. well said!

there were two groups of people in england fighting against the anglican church's rule and corruption. the puritians who wanted to purify the church from within and the separatists who did just that. we also call them the pilgrims.

it's amazing how history has been re-written and words of our nation's founders been twisted in order to separate our nation from God. by allowing our leftists friends to re-write history, we allow them to re-write the constitution and enable them to take away certain rights that the founding fathers intended us to have.

thankfully, i had a history teacher in high school who taught history as it occurred.
